As readers of this blog know, the purpose has always been to inform potential modular home buyers, particularly those considering Champion Genesis modular homes, by providing as much information as possible to assist them in their decision making process.
I recently read a post on Modular Home Builder that was critical of the methods used by potential modular buyers to determine if they were making the right decision. I still haven't decided whether or not the post was naive or just a promo for modular home builders in general. Right now, promo seems to be the answer.
I responded with a comment, however not knowing if the comment will be posted, the following is my response.
The
answer to the comment is not a complicated one at all. When investing in a modular home or any home
for that matter, the potential buyer owes it to themselves and their family to
investigate fully to the greatest extent possible before making a decision.
Why
would anyone assume anything about the manufacturer without first using all
viable channels to investigate?This is
the classic definition of assume, (it makes an ass of u and me).Never assume, confirm everything you can and
the internet is the perfect vehicle for doing just that.Fact checking should not be confused with seeking
someone to confirm ones decision. If all
you are looking for is a simple confirmation, just ask the salesman and take it
with a grain of salt!
When
one utilizes the internet, one is exposed to all types of information. Some
good, some marginal, some bad and yes, they are some who rant/vent on the
internet. However, do not discard of the
value of the comments because of the delivery method.
People,
even rational people, tend to get “pissed off” when they have been ripped
off!Review the comments and decide for
yourself if the comment is backed up with facts and the total number of people
sharing the same or similar problems with certain manufacturers.
It
remains unclear how a poorly constructed modular home from the manufacturer
could ever be the fault of the onsite builder or the consumer. It has become very apparent from the number
of postings on numerous blogs and websites that Champion Enterprises builds
shoddy homes and rarely backs them up with service.(See http://championgenesismodularhomes.com/2007/03/31/whats-inside-your-wall-or-under-your-floor.aspx
)
Champion
Enterprises has long been the number one home builder when measured by units
sold and remains in business despite the fact that the product does not measure
up. Unfortunately, trusting people tend
to believe what they hear from the salesperson and see on the website. It has only been with the advent of blogs
that the truth has started to filter out to unsuspecting buyers.
There
is a reason that Consumer Reports conducts surveys by asking questions relating
to repairs and problems and then rates the products accordingly. What makes asking questions about problems an
invalid method for obtaining information, especially when gathering as much
information as possible makes for a more informed decision?
Modular
homes are a great way to build. But
shame on anyone who does not do their homework using all available
methodologies and instead just takes the word of the manufacturer. There is a reason for the slogan,
