How Champion Genesis Service is Like Oil & Water

As I have done in the past, the following is a response to a recent comment.  So that you need not look up the comment, it is listed below.

As previously stated, the purpose of this blog is to provide as much information as possible to potential buyers of modular homes.  Equally important, perhaps even more important, the purpose of this blog is to inform and make potential modular home buyers aware of the nightmarish problems they can expect to encounter if they should decide to purchase a modular home assembled by Champion Genesis modular homes.

Numerous entries and comments have detailed specifically how poorly Champion modular homes are assembled in the factory.  Just as many describe the lack of follow up and service by Champion Genesis after the home is delivered, similar to what happens when you mix oil and water.  No matter how hard you try, it will never happen!

The recent time line article was written for potential modular home buyers and was not intended to minimize the nightmare/problems that previous Champion Genesis modular home buyers have had and continue to have.  No insult intended.

I have stated from the very start that Champion Genesis modular homes uses marketing and salesmanship to cover up and mask the extremely poor quality of their product.  Their practice is to continue to sell, hoping an uninformed public will continue to buy.  Comments like the listed below as well as others on this blog should be taken to heart by potential buyers and they should considered themselves warned about the Champion Genesis modular home nightmare!

Comment:

Just to clarify, just so there isn't any question...we are Cedar Fire rebuilders from 2003. In Ocotober, this will make five years. Following a "time line" for proper set up doesn't quite touch on our experience. I find it insulting.
Our water heater is on the second floor. Water heaters are not supposed to be on the second floor, period. The risk of fire is GREAT! It is set directly on the ground, not 18" inches as required. The water heater blows out at least five times per day. If you are TRYING to wash a load of laundry, good luck. We have a Kenmore HE washer, a front loader. In order to wash a load of laundry each load must be run a minimum of three times. Cold water doesn't clean laundry. We are using and astronomical amount of water with the bills to boot. With the water heater not being the right water heater in the first place, it sucks the propane in exponential amounts. The filled tanks cost $800 per fill up. The water heater makes horrible clunking noises, I'm talking loud, when lit. I was told to find someone to put a water heater in. I did. It's a tankless. There isn't anywhere else for the thing to go, so it HAS to be tankless. Otherwise, we are talking about placing a water heater in an outbuilding on with a slab to support it beside our "house" at an incredible expense. If you think you electrical panel will support your water heater, think again. Our panel needed to be upgraded to support it. It has blown our washing machine out twice in six months to where we needed a completely new electrical part and it happened again on Sunday. Same problem, same part. So, we live in the mountains of California. We are a good thirty minutes from the nearest "town" and there wasn't anyone that would up the mountain to install a water heater, electrical, and to remove the dangerous water heater that is upstairs in my daughter's bedroom. We moved in to our Cedar Fire rebuild a year ago. She hasn't been able to use her bedroom For any of you parents out there, take note. She is a brain injury survivor to boot. I was told by Barbara Holloway and Cliff Blendon(sp?) that if I were to find a licensed plumber, they would pay for the removal of the old water heater and installation of the new one. The electrical doesn't support my washer as it is, so that HAS to be corrected. I spent June, July, and August trying to find someone to do this job. I finally found ONE that agreed to help us. We submitted the bill to Champion in AZ and have yet to hear from them. We were supposed to open a home day care in January of 2008. Without a safe environment, we can't pass the home inspection for the license. We are losing a minimum of of $3600 per month, with most likely a five child income of $4500. We have sold everything we have to sell. We will likely lose our home in two months. They won't call us back. When told of the problems with the wiring that trapped us in our home during the Witch Fire, Barbara Holloway literally laughed at us. Very funny, lady.

Please forgive me. It's so hard to know who to trust. Our home got through our rigorous county inspections. It shouldn't have. Someone looked the other way. This is now being looked into, forced by inquiries naming local news media as the driving force. Our Department of Planning and Land Use officials are in a meeting as I write. To give up isn't who I am. It isn't the red hair, it's the fire. I can take a lot, but when it hurts my child all bets are off. When I find a way, and I will, I plan to make sure it helps more than just us.

I am sorry for having offended you.

A minimum of three hours per day is spent just trying to save our home, such as it is.

Please understand, you did not offend me.  You are one of who knows how many people who have trusted Champion Enterprises and its dealers only to end up with a nightmarish situation.

It is very important that your story is told so people will understand that dealing with Champion Enterprises has severe consequences.  No one should have to go through what you and your family are experiencing.

Champion Enterprises should be ashamed of themselves, unfortunately they are only interest in bottom line dollars and not customer service or satisfaction.

Please post comments whenever you like and keep the pressure on Champion Enterprises!  Your comments are very enlightening to potential modular home buyers.

Hi Mike, Just have a question about the "A comment regarding "Project Schedule For Modular Home Building", an entry at Champion Genesis Modular Homes, was written at 9/4/2008 5:48:02 AM." If the owner lives in the State of California ,There is a Champion Factory in Lindsey, California which is I think closer to probably to people who are buying Champion Homes who happened to live in California. Why should they buy from Arizona?. Have heard that the Champion factory in Lindsey, California is more stringent in terms of their quality control. I don't know how true is that....It remains to be seen, once someone purchased the product from the Champion factort that I've mentioned above. I would like to know....Thanks for keeping us all abreast....more power to you Mike.

            Hank,

The Champion factory in Lindsey is responsible for mobile and manufactured homes, not modular homes.

The Champion Genesis Redman factory is located in Chandler Arizona and is responsible for assembling (notice I did not use the word "building") modular homes that are sold in California.

I have no doubt that inspections are better performed in California, be it on-site or in the factory.

This is in contrast to the Champion Genesis Redman factory in Chandler Arizona, which hires and pays for the inspectors in the factory.  One can only imagine how long the inspectors would be employed if they pointed out mistakes, hence the never ending nightmare for people who unfortunately purchased their modular homes from Champion Genesis Redman.

To be fair, Champion Enterprises has replaced the General Manager of the factory in Chandler several times in recent years trying to improve the quality of their product.  Perhaps they should try refining the process on the factory floor as opposed to replacing the GM.  I was told by a high ranking employee of Champion Genesis Chandler, that the factory workers are unable to read the plan specifications and while the supervisors can read the plan specs, they don't speak the same language as the workers on the floor.

            Hope this is helpful.

Here is some new information about modular homes and mobile homes set on a site in the state of California that might help:

Now, within the city of San Diego and generally the entire state of California all homes will be inspected on the Inside, not just the outside of the home. Before now, they were not allowed to inspect the inside. Instead, the builder of the home had an independent company inspect the homes, which was said to satisfy the state requirements. The room for abuse was great. This is how we got here.

So, now, officially, within the City of San Diego (and unofficially - until they can get this information distributed to every county)all modular homes will be inspected to Title 24 Code Requirements, just as a site built home would be. In San Dieogo County, they are including mobile homes too. This is big news, folks. This means that people won't be moving into homes that are unsafe. All homes (regardless of when built) when delivered and set up from here on will have to comply with these codes. Before now, the state where the homes were built inspected them. Moreover, not that state, but an independent company did the inspections. Who do you think paid that independent company? This was supposed to satisfy the state codes of every other state. Unfortunately, for the homes delivered before now it doesn't apply, at least in California.

Contact your state agencies and local building planning/licensing agencies and demand a change. You want your homes inspected on the INSIDE. This many seem small or insignificant, but this is the crux of our problem. This will change most everything we have all had to face. Document everything and forward copies. Photos work! Everyone make a lot of noise and it will change for you too!

As far as fixing the problems for the rest of us, I'm not done yet.

      L.J.
